Counseling
Greetings,
My name is Mrs. Stephanie Mitchell, and I am the new School Counselor for Ison Springs Elementary School. I am thrilled about this school year and look forward to working with and meeting everyone.
I am new to Fulton County Schools, but I bring a wealth of experience, having served in various positions such as teacher, school counselor, and administrator in independent, private, residential, and charter schools. I hold an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, a Master of Education in Counseling and Middle Level Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
I am excited to support the students of Ison Springs by providing them with the social/emotional and academic skills they need to be successful.
As a School Counselor, I perform the following roles and services to meet the needs of our students in the areas of social/emotional development, academic achievement, and career exploration:
Individual counseling: I am available to meet with your students on an individual basis. Students are referred to me by parents, teachers, administration, or students may refer themselves to speak with me. Topics covered during individual counseling will vary based on the student's needs, but can include anger management, conflict resolution, improving academic skills, coping with death, or dealing with crisis situations. If you would like to refer your student for individual counseling, please complete the counseling referral form linked below.

Small group counseling: For students that need additional support, I may see them in a small group setting with other students on a topic. Topics vary based on the data of the school but can address academics, career/goal setting, or personal/social concerns. Groups meet during the school day, but not when core subjects are taught. Students can be invited to join a group by the school counselor or referred by administration, parents, or teachers.
Core curriculum (classroom lessons): I will go into classrooms at least once a month to share a lesson with the entire class. Most topics are based on the needs of the students, but all 1st-5th grade students will participate in the state mandated career exploration lessons.

The mission of the Counseling Department is to build a comprehensive developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. Programs developed by the Counseling Department will be driven by the unique ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of the entire student population with the end goal of removing barriers to student learning and encouraging achievement at the highest level for each student. Through a partnership with students, educators, parents, and the community, theĀ Counseling Department will prepare students academically and socially to be productive members and leaders of society.
