Reading Club
The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl ("HRRB") is a unique reading competition offered to 4th and 5th graders in Georgia. The competition was created by Helen Ruffin, a media specialist in Dekalb County. She served on the selection committee for the Georgia Children's Book Award nominee program.
This is a leadership opportunity to represent Ison Springs in a county and statewide competition. It is important that students commit to one meeting per week in the beginning with an increase in the weeks before the competition. Students should commit to reading four of the ten competition books. Students will read from a list of ten selected, award-winning books and compete against students across Fulton County in a Jeopardy-style competition. The questions will cover a range of book topics including characters, plot, and theme.
The reading club gave out forms in September and we have started our club. Please feel free to join next year by filling out a form at the beginning of the year. The club is open to any 4th and 5th grader that wants to join and is willing to meet twice a week!
